Search engine market shares in 2020: where are we in France?
Compared to 2019, in March 2020, Google lost some market share but still remains the undisputed leader, capturing nearly 92% of searches carried out by French Internet users. Bing and the eco-responsible search engine Ecosia are the two main winners this year with an interesting increase in their market share. Ecosia has this year entered the top 6 most used search engines in France with now 1.23% market share. Qwant, the French search engine which presents itself as an alternative to Google more respectful of the personal data of Internet users, has meanwhile seen its market share stagnate compared to the previous year (0.78% vs 0.74%) .

In France, in July 2019, Google continues to lead the market with over 94% market share when Qwant, the French alternative to Google begins to nibble some market share to reach nearly 0.8% market share in France behind Bing (3.03%) / Yahoo (1.37%) and ahead of DuckDuckGo with its 0.42% market share in France.

While there are many alternatives to Google, they were still little used in France in 2017. Qwant, for example, did not even appear in the ranking.

With only 49.97% of the market share in Russia, Google is far from unanimous. The Russian search engine Yandex is right behind it with just over 45% of the search market share.

In China, Google is not only overtaken, it is crushed. Baidu, is the preferred search engine of the Chinese with more than 78% of the market share ahead of Shenma (8.18%), Haosou (7.99%) and Soguo Search (1.81%). Google comes only in 5th position with less than 2% of the market share in China.
South Korea’s search engine market shares in 2017:
In South Korea, the search engine market is much more fragmented with 3 main search engines Google (65.22%), Naver (26.24%) and Daum (5.95%). Naver is the most visited web portal in South Korea and therefore also the second most used search engine by South Koreans in May 2017. For Daum, which is also a very visited portal in Korea, its rise has mainly been driven by the acquisition of the former Lycos search engine in 2004.

In the Czech Republic, the local search engine “Seznam”, for example, overshadows the American search engine by stealing from it no less than 11.5% of market share, far ahead of Bing and Yahoo.
