watchOS 9: from Apple Watch Series 4

The following watches can install watchOS 9:

  • Apple Watch Series SE (1st and 2nd generation)
  • Apple Watch Series 4
  • Apple Watch Series 5
  • Apple Watch Series 6
  • Apple Watch Series 7
  • Apple Watch Series 8
  • Apple Watch Ultra

How to update your Apple Watch under watchOS 9

Before you can update your Apple Watch to watchOS 9, you must have an iPhone with iOS 16 installed (see our tutorial: how to install iOS 16).

Then, ensure the following prerequisites:

  • iPhone connected to Wi-Fi and charged with at least 50% battery remaining
  • Apple Watch charging on its stand

Then follow these steps:

  • Go to the Watch app on the iPhone
  • Go to the section General > Software Update
  • When the update is displayed on the screen, choose To download
  • Do Install once the download is complete
  • Enter your password to validate the installation
  • Press one last time Install
