When Volkswagen launched the 1.5 TSI EVO engine, did not finish convincing us but in the latest updates and with the latest tests, we have changed our opinion about said mechanics.
Today we learned that ABT has decided to “catapult” the 1.5-liter TSI to a new level. Thanks to a software update, this mechanic that is currently found in models such as the A3, the Golf, the León or the Kodiaq -to name a few-, you will be able to raise its power from 150 hp to 190 hp “without getting messy”.
The world’s largest specialist in auto parts and performance parts for Audi and VW is launching the new ABT Engine Control (AEC) Power. The high-tech control unit will be available for the first half of 2021 at a launch price of 999 euros, although after the promotional launch process the price will increase up to 1,249 euros.
The price-performance ratio is huge: the compatible vehicles receive 27% more power. Instead of 150 hp (110 kW) and 250 Nm, the lucky ones who opt for this product will have 190 hp (140 kW) and 290 Nm.
Customers will be able to install the high-tech control unit themselves. Thanks to the hermetic closure through a glued casing, waterproof caps and a Gore-Tex membrane that prevents condensation inside the device, the product is optimally protected against inclement weather or dust thanks to its IP67 waterproofing.
According to ABT, the Engine Control Power does not “squeeze” the 1.5-liter TSI, in fact, puts engine protection above all else. All this power will only be available when the engine is warm.
According to ABT there is no need to worry about fuel consumption either, as having a higher torque will presumably decrease consumption.
