Over the past two years, Apple has been a hit. With the iPhone 12 series, the firm has achieved a supercycle, thanks to its first 5G smartphones. At the end of 2021, it also increased its sales thanks to the iPhone 13 series.

And if the Cupertino company is (still) not the leader in the smartphone market, it nevertheless dominates the Top 10 of the best-selling models in 2021. This Top 10 was recently published by the company Counterpoint Research.

And in the first place of it is the iPhone 12, followed by the iPhone 12 Pro Max, the iPhone 13, the iPhone 12 Pro, and then the iPhone 11. The model Samsung’s most popular Galaxy A12 (an entry-level smartphone) sits in sixth place. In seventh place is Xiaomi’s Redmi 9A.

And in eighth place is the iPhone SE 2020, followed by the iPhone 13 Pro Max. Another Xiaomi smartphone, the Redmi 9, is in the tenth position.

In essence, of the 10 best-selling models in 2021, there are 7 iPhones.

Apple made a splash with the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 series

“The top five models in 2021 came from Apple. iPhone 12 was the top-selling model, followed by iPhone 12 Pro Max, iPhone 13, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 11. The top three models contributed 41% to Apple’s total sales. Looming demand for 5G upgrades by a strong and loyal iOS user base and carrier push drove iPhone 12 series volumes”writes Counterpoint in its publication.

This one also mentions the fact that the release of the iPhone 12 has been delayed. Due to this delay, some purchases that should have been made in the last quarter of 2020 were postponed to the first months of 2021. The iPhone 13 also sold very well, as it was the best-selling smartphone in the world in the last quarter of 2021.

In its report, Counterpoint says that last year there were over 4,200 active smartphone models. And the market share of Top 10 devices was 19%. This represents an increase compared to 2020, since during this year, the share of the Top 10 was 16%.
