Apple (quietly) increases the price of its MacBook Air M1

Apple has just completed its presentation of the WWDC 2022 keynote. During this one, several new features were presented, concerning iOS 16, macOS Ventura, or even Apple silicon.

Precisely on this subject, Apple unveiled a new chip, the M2. This lands on two headed computers, the Macbook Air and the Macbook Pro. The chip is obviously more powerful than the M1 and more economical.

But while you might think the M2 versions of these Macs are chasing older iterations, for the MacBook Air at least, that’s not the case. The MacBook Air M1 remains in line with the new M2 version alongside it. First surprise.

The second surprise concerns the prices. The new MacBook Air M2 starts at 1499 €. And the old MacBook Air M1 costs 1199 €… That’s €70 more than a few hours ago!

In short, the arrival of the new MacBook Air M2 raised the price of the MacBook Air M1 from €1,129 to €1,199.

And that is rather hard to swallow. Especially since in the United States, the older generation machine remains at $999. The increase only seems to concern France, or even the € zone.

It remains to know the reasons underlying this astonishing increase…
