Like many other players in the field of new technologies, Apple must manage the shortage of semiconductors. Nevertheless, despite these constraints, the firm still managed to achieve good financial performance in the first fiscal quarter of 2022 (which ended on December 25, 2021).
Indeed, the quarterly revenues of the Cupertino company were 123.9 billion dollars, a level never reached which exceeds Wall Street forecasts. And compared to the 111 billion dollars generated one year ago, during the same period, the increase is significant.
These record results, Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, attributes to innovation in the company’s line of products and services. “We are thrilled to see the response from customers around the world at a time when staying connected has never been more important. We’re doing all we can to help build a better world – making progress towards our goal of becoming carbon neutral in our supply chain and products by 2030, and continuing our work in education and racial equity and justice”, he also said.
All products carded, except iPad
And of course, the iPhone 13 sold very well. Indeed, iPhone revenue was $71.6 billion in the quarter, compared to $65.6 billion during the same period in 2020. Mac sales also exploded thanks to the transition to chips. Apple Silicon. Revenue for this category was $10.9 billion, up $2 billion year-over-year.
Revenue generated by the wearables category (Apple Watch, AirPods, HomePod) was also up. In contrast, iPad sales were down 14%. Apple explains that this category has suffered particularly severe supply constraints. Rumors have also indicated that Apple has decided to use components normally dedicated to the iPad to manufacture more iPhone 13.
In any case, Apple was able to achieve these fine financial performances despite a difficult context. As usual, the Cupertino company didn’t comment much on the constraints it faced.
But the delivery time displayed on the company’s website, for the delivery of certain products, gave us an idea of these difficulties. The good news is that today the situation is improving.
Apple presents these revenues boosted by the products launched in 2021, while it is preparing those of 2022 today. Normally, the Cupertino company will organize an event this spring. And normally, this one will present a new iPhone SE, as well as a new iPad Air.
