This is the end of a long-term legal confrontation. In August 2020, PanOptis filed a lawsuit against Apple for 4G LTE patent infringement. This technology has been used on the company’s flagship products such as iPhones, iPads, and even Apple Watches.

The Cupertino company was first ordered to pay him $506.2 million. Except that a federal judge accepted that a new trial be organized because of “serious doubts” about the verdict.

Eventually, the sum was then reduced to $300 million and Apple continued to protest and requested a third judgment. Ultimately, this new request was rejected, reports the Reuters news agency.

Thus, if successful, the apple brand could indeed have reduced the damages to zero but the judge in charge of the case, Rodney Gilstrap, of the American District of Eastern Texas, decided otherwise.

For a very large company like Apple, lawsuits are part of everyday life. For example, we recently told you about this lawsuit filed for patent infringement in the United States Court for the Western District of Texas. It is initiated by a descendant of the Bell telecom company.

This initiative covers around ten patents and concerns in particular the iPhone, the iPad, and Apple’s wireless products. If you want to go deeper into the subject, you can read our dedicated article here.
