Japanese media Macotakara, who previously reported that the iPad mini 6’s screen would be larger, just said it knows more about an upcoming phone from Apple. According to the site, this is the iPhone SE 3, which should logically succeed the model currently on sale. What’s more, this one would actually look exactly like it with still a “compact” 4.7-inch diagonal LCD.
Better: the Home button integrating the biometric scanner of Touch ID would also be kept, to the delight of its regulars. Some – for the sake of confidentiality, although the argument should be qualified – indeed prefer to do without the TrueDepth sensor.
As powerful as the iPhone 13?
Still according to the same source, the new iPhone SE would be positioned in the same way as its predecessor by embedding an A15 Bionic chip. It is this one that already powers the iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max. A relatively robust part since 65% more efficient than that of the iPhone SE of 2020 according to recent detailed measurements.
However, the story does not specify the possible amount of RAM included under the hood, which therefore remains subject to guesswork. Remember that it was not enhanced during the presentation of the iPhone 13. The 5G, however, would make for the first time its arrival on the cheapest range of mobiles in Cupertino. A standard yet not very popular in France, where consumers continue to subscribe massively to 4G offers.
Potential release date
Macotakara estimates that production of the third iPhone SE will begin in December of this year, for release to the public in the spring of 2022. For comparison, the launch schedule for the second-generation iPhone SE had seen the device announced on April 15, 2020. Pre-orders were only possible two days later. Finally, it was on April 24 (a Friday) that the first customers had the chance to receive him at their home.
We were able to take control of this cell phone. This is probably the best value for money to find at Apple, but its small display can sometimes get in the way of serious gaming or streaming a movie.
