The well-known Thanksgiving Day parade in the United States, comes in the form of an NFT from the hand of Macy’s.
Those who have been present at one of the Thanksgiving parades in New York say that it is an unforgettable event and they would like to keep it in their memory forever.
Now the department store chain Macy’s, whose headquarters are in The Big Apple and which has been the organizer of the event since 1924, makes it possible. Turned into non-fungible tokens (NFT) some of the iconic balloon designs from their annual Thanksgiving stops, some of which will be up for auction to benefit the foundation Make-A-Wish.
Thus, these images may be at the fingertips of the fans.
Here You can see some models, whose current bidding prices go from USD $ 4,100 to USD $ 7,000, although they will surely rise in the following days. The images have movement that resemble the journey through the streets. Each represents a decade. So far the one that has obtained the most money in the bid is the representative of the 1920s.
95 Years of Macy’s Balloons on NFT
It is the first NFT series of Macy’s. And, as we said, it is launched in celebration of its 95th annual Thanksgiving Day parade, which returns in 2021 in full swing, after pandemic restrictions curbed some of its enthusiasm in 2020.
“As we celebrate our rich legacy, 95 years in the making, we were struck by the unique place the parade occupies in pop culture, always evolving and reflecting the best characters and artists of each generation.” said in a statement Will Coss, executive producer of the Thanksgiving Day Parade of Macy’s. He added:
“To celebrate that history, we created art in a new way through NFT that would bring the magic of the parade to a new generation while raising funds for our partner Make-A-Wish.”
As can be seen on the web, the NFTs are based on some of the iconic globes of Macy’s during the parade’s nine decades of history. They are designed by a digital art agency called REOMETRY.
Still a week to go
Through November 30, Macy’s will auction off 10 of these unique NFT designs, and 100% of the proceeds generated from these 10 digital collectibles. will be used to benefit Make-A-Wish, a group that grants wishes to critically ill children.
In addition, Macy’s will also be launching 9,500 additional free generative NFTs, featuring previous parade balloon designs, available on a first-come, first-served basis starting at 10:00 ET on Thanksgiving Day (tomorrow, November 25).
NFTs work with the platform Sweet and are based on the blockchain Polygon. Even if the fans sell the NFT free in the future, 10% of generated sales will be donated to Make-A-Wish, in perpetuity, using technology Blockchain.
