The Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks of Mexico (Cofepris) authorized the use of Pfizer’s vaccine against Covid-19 in emergencies, making it the fourth nation with this endorsement.
The news was released by the Undersecretary of Health, Hugo López-Gatell, who celebrated the news. “The good news is: the evaluation process has concluded,” he said at a conference. “This is certainly a reason for hope, for tranquility,” he considered.
Remembered that On November 26, the Commission began the review, evaluation and ruling of the documentation submitted for the sanitary authorization for emergency use.
Mexico joins the countries whose health authorities have given this biological approval to apply. These are, in order of ruling, the United Kingdom, Bahrain and Canada.
With this, he pointed out, the presidential instruction that Mexico has vaccines against Covid-19 at the same rate as other countries is fulfilled. Meanwhile, Cofepris announced that this approval had the consensus of its members.
“The New Molecules Committee met on December 11, where its 24 members voted and gave a favorable opinion, unanimously, for emergency use, “he explained.
“Cofepris has ruled the authorization for emergency use of the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine as appropriate, in order to be used in the National Vaccination Policy against the SARS-CoV-2 virus for the prevention of Covi-19 ″.
According to what was planned by the Federal Government of Mexico, it is expected that this week that is about to start, the first vaccines will arrive in Mexico, which will begin the vaccination campaign against COVID-19.
