The essentials: enjoy the most beautiful beaches in Martinique

Whether you are in the north or in the south of Martinique, you cannot miss the beaches. Renowned among the most beautiful in the Caribbean, Martinique is home to incredible beaches. With more than 350 km of coastline, you will find beaches worthy of postcards, wild beaches, or windy beaches for kitesurfing. Each of Martinique’s beaches is an invitation to travel.

To the south, you will discover white sand beaches, clear water, and coconut palms. And to the north, more wild black sand beaches with turbulent currents and lush vegetation. Finally, with water at 25 degrees all year round, regardless of the period of your trip to Martinique, you will benefit from it.

1. Anse Noire

Anse Noire Beach Martinique
  • Location: Les Ans d’Arlette, southwest of Martinique
  • Great for: snorkeling, diving, watching the sunset

This Martinique black sand beach is our favorite, probably for its lush vegetation and crystal clear water. Anse Noire is volcanic in origin and is the only black sand beach of this type south of Martinique.

To reach Anse Noire, you have to descend 130 steps from the parking lot to the beach, which may turn off some people. However, it’s worth the hike under the sea!

Anse Noire has a very rich seabed, and snorkeling and diving enthusiasts will discover sponges, gorgonians, turtles, and many species of fish. If possible, visit Anse Noire during weekends and school holidays, when it is crowded with locals.

2. Grande Anse des Salines

Salines Beach Martinique
  • Location: Sainte-Anne, south of Martinique
  • Great for: Swimming, A relaxing beach day

Grand Anse des Salines (or Salines Beach) is one of the most famous beaches in Martinique, and with its perfect postcard setting, also one of the prettiest. It is the Caribbean beach that comes to mind for all of us with its long stretch of white sand lined with turquoise water and coconut trees.

Grande Anse des Salines is located in the south of Martinique. In the distance, you can even see Diamond Rock and, on a clear day, the island of St. Lucia.

This Martinique beach is great for families and anyone looking for a relaxing day at the beach. In fact, its calm sea with almost no currents makes it great for swimming, especially for children. There are also a few on-site eateries perfect for having lunch or a quick dinner.

Obviously, Salines Beach is very popular with tourists and locals alike, so we recommend getting there early in the morning if you’re looking for the “paradise feeling.”

3. Anse Mitan

Anse Mitan Martinique
  • Location: Sainte-Anne, southwest of Martinique
  • Great for: Families Water activities

Anse Mitan is the main beach of Trois-Ilets. It is a beautiful beach on the west coast with clear and calm water and a narrow stretch of fine white sand. It is one of the most animated Martinique beaches due to its good connection to Fort-de-France (served by shuttle boats) and facilities such as concerts, bars, and restaurants.

If you are looking for Fort de France beaches, do consider this one. Anse Mitan is the starting point for many fun water activities such as diving, kayaking, or jet skiing. That said, this is definitely not the best beach in Martinique for those looking for a quiet and relaxing beach day.

We love the view of the Bay of Fort de France from Anse Mittan!

4. Pointe Borgnèse

Pointe Marin Martinique
  • Location: Le Marin, south of Martinique
  • Great for: snorkeling

Overlooked by most tourists, Pointe Borghese is a beautiful wild beach in Martinique located at the entrance to Marin Bay, worth a stop on your way to the beaches of Presquiel de Sainte-Anne.

You need to walk a few minutes up a rocky and steep path to reach this beach, but you are rewarded with a beautiful narrow beach with clear and calm water, fine sand, and a few trees providing some shade Will go

This is probably the best beach in Martinique to get lost in for a while. The setting here is great and there is also a beautiful seabed, landscaped with alternative sea grass, gorgonian, and coral beds as well as a multitude of fish. With a little luck, expect to see French angels, yellow-tailed damselflies, serpentines, surgeonfish, butterflyfish, parrotfish, sea urchins, lionfish, and some turtles.

It is one of the best-preserved coral areas in the Caribbean and has been listed as a protected site by the Conservatoire du Littoral since 2000. Fishing is prohibited on this Martinique beach.

5. Anse Couleuvre

Anse Couleuvre Martinique

  • Great for: snorkeling

Anse Couleuvre is a beautiful black sand beach, a hidden gem in northern Martinique. It is a wild beach at the foot of Mount Peli, nestled among high cliffs covered with tropical jungle.

There is a short hike to reach Anse Coleuvre, and this is probably what keeps it quiet and calm. On the way, there is also an old abandoned rum distillery and a small waterfall before reaching this awesome beach with coconut trees.

Anse Coulevre is one of the best beaches in Martinique for snorkeling: the seabed here is very beautiful and there are many tropical fish.

6. Anse Dufour

Anse Dufour Martinique
  • Location: Les Ans d’Arlette, southwest of Martinique
  • Great for: snorkeling, families

Anse Dufour is the neighboring beach of Anse Noire, but unlike Anse Noire, the sand here is white. This is one of the most charming Martinique beaches, located near a fishing village lost in time. Colorful boats waiting for fishing time add a touch of color to the setting and there are two restaurant bars with an old-fashioned atmosphere.

Anse Dufour is small and the waters here are calm, which is great for exploring its iconic seabed with many tropical fish and sea turtles. Avoid weekends and holidays, this beach is very crowded with locals!

7. Anse Céron

Anse Ceron Martinique
  • Location: Le Preacher in the north of Martinique
  • Great for: snorkeling

Anse Céron is a black sandy beach, wild and stunningly beautiful. Surrounded by lush green vegetation, it has that ‘end of the world’ feel that we love so much.

Located in the north of Martinique, from this beach you can enjoy a view of the Pearl Islands and – on a clear day – the nearby island of Dominica.

The sea here is often clear but can be rough when the weather is not good. Like many northern beaches, the sea gets deep quickly so you’ll need to keep an eye on the kids.

The many grape and coconut trees along the beach provide generous shade. There is no restaurant here but you will find BBQs and wooden tables for picnics. You will also find street vendors who offer sorbets and drinks.

Occasionally, it is possible to see dolphins and whales transiting (in December) from this beach.

8. Anse Michel

Anse Michel Sainte Anne
  • Location: South of Martinique
  • Great for: Family, Kite surfing, Windsurfing

Anse Michel is a beautiful beach located in the south of the island. It is a long beach with fine sand and is shaded by palm trees. Its crystalline and shallow waters, protected by long coral reefs, are perfect for children.

Anse Michel is a popular beach among locals and tourists. Unlike the beaches at Les Salines, it manages to retain its wild atmosphere.

Along the coast, there are small bars and restaurants where you can taste some local specialties. Finally, Cap Chevalier is also a popular spot for kite surfers and windsurfers.

9. Anse Turin

Anse Turin is a secluded beach located in the southern region of Martinique. This beach is known for its dramatic cliffs, crystal-clear waters, and tranquil atmosphere. Visitors can find a number of small, private coves to relax in or take a swim. There are also a few restaurants and bars located nearby, making it the perfect spot to spend a day in the sun.

10. Anse Bleue

Anse Bleue is one of the most beautiful beaches in Martinique. It’s well known for its clear turquoise waters which make for perfect swimming and snorkeling. The white sand beach is also flanked by two small islands, which can be reached by swimming or taking a boat ride.

11. La Pointe Faula

If you’re looking for a breathtaking beach to relax on during your time in Martinique, look no further than La Pointe Faula. With its gentle waves and sandy shores, the beach is perfect for swimming, sunbathing, and simply taking in stunning views. Don’t forget to enjoy a refreshing drink or bite to eat in one of the beachside cafes while enjoying the quiet atmosphere.

12. Anse des Pilotes

Anse des Pilotes is one of the most beautiful beaches in Martinique. It’s a secluded beach located in the southeastern corner of the island. The beach is known for its dramatic cliffs, turquoise waters, and white sand beaches. Visitors can find a number of small, private coves to relax in or take a swim.

13. Les Salines

Martinique’s Les Salines is one of the most beautiful beaches on the island. The sparkling white sand and clear blue water make it a perfect place to relax and enjoy the incredible views. The beach is also great for swimming, boating, and windsurfing; and there are plenty of restaurants and bars nearby should you need a break from the sun.
