No 27-inch Apple silicon iMac, after all?

iMac Pro

According to the same source who already knew the Mac Studio in advance, Apple would have just put an end to its plans concerning a possible iMac “Pro”. The concept has regularly made the headlines in recent weeks, taking the diagonal of the last model with Intel chip but updating it with a different processor, this time designed by Cupertino.

Coupled with a central unit, the new StudioDisplay with also twenty-seven inches on the clock has perhaps proven itself to the point of disproving its all-in-one equivalent. But the quarterly results published regularly by its manufacturer will not allow us to be sure. Apple prefers tax data by product category only: iPhone, Mac, iPad…

The price of the alternative

Enjoying a large screen at Apple therefore leaves three possibilities today. The first is theiMac M1 (24″) released in 2021 and which consists of a single purchase from 1,449 euros in France. An amount that can reach almost double for a maximum configuration with a 2 TB SSD and 16 GB of RAM.

Alternatively, it is also possible to opt for the 32-inch Pro Display XDR but the invoice starts here at 5,499 euros or 6,499 euros with a layer of nano-textured glass. To which we must still add a Mac mini or a Mac Pro, always without leaving the Apple ecosystem.

Finally, the27-inch iMac with Intel CPU, which has just been withdrawn from sale in the Apple Store but which remains available on the side of third-party stores. Here, it takes at least 2,099 euros, which is always more than for the more compact but more recent edition.

Response in June

The next conference that Apple should give should unsurprisingly be held in June, when the brand most often organizes its annual WWDC. Geared towards developers, the show quite often gives pride of place to the changes that are coming to the Mac and could therefore also be an opportunity to validate or not the hypothesis of the twenty-seven-inch “Pro” iMac.

Another potential star of the event: a new version of macOS, whose code name would still refer to a Californian region.
