Has Apple decided to cut production for its next series, theiPhone 14 ? That’s the question many Apple fans and watchers are asking. Indeed, recently, a rumor has circulated suggesting that the Cupertino company would have revised its chip orders for the iPhone downwards, in order to anticipate a drop in demand.

But Ming Chi Kuo, an analyst whose information is mostly accurate, questions the veracity of these rumors. “Rumours of TSMC’s 10% iPhone 14 order discount don’t match my investigation”writes Kuo.

Analyst Ming Chi Kuo assures that Apple has not yet significantly reduced its production forecast

“Apple’s slight adjustments to iPhone shipping forecasts (single-digit increase/decrease) are common, including new models before mass production”, says this specialist. He adds that there is usually no reduction or increase in production forecasts with a double-digit percentage, before the launch of a model and before confirmation of demand in the real market.

“If a supply chain issue causes a significant change in the plan to ship new iPhones before mass production, Apple typically postpones orders instead of cutting them”also explained Kuo.

In other words, Apple would therefore not change its plans for the moment, but would wait for the release of the product in order to have a clear idea of the demand. And it would only be after that the firm could possibly correct its production forecasts. And according to the analyst, this logic also applies to other Apple products.

The rumor in question came from an article by Digitimes, a publication which is also regularly relayed by the tech media. According to the article published a few days ago by this site, the main customers of TSMC would have lowered their orders for the rest of the year 2022.

As a reminder, TSMC or Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company is the largest independent semiconductor foundry in the world. Currently, this company has the exclusive production of iPhone and Mac chips for Apple. But it also counts Qualcomm (for Snapdragon chips) and Mediatek among its customers.

Lots of new features on the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max

On the iPhone 14 series, Apple should focus the main new features on the Pro models: the iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro Max. For example, in terms of design, these two models should have a screen without a notch (the camera for selfies and the Face ID sensor would be placed on a bubble and a pill pierced in the screen). On the back of the Pro models, there would be a 48-megapixel camera, which would be an important new feature.

And the Pro models might also have more RAM. Moreover, rumors suggest that Apple will reserve the new A16 Bionic chip for the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, while the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max will settle for an A15 chip.
