no Touch ID under the screen before 2025?

Capteur Touch ID sous écran

Rumors have been reaching us for several years now about the possible presence of Touch ID under the screen of the next iPhones instead of Face ID. This was particularly the case in 2020, but also last year.

A real delay compared to what was planned?

In a tweet posted this week, often knowledgeable Apple expert Ming-Chi Kuo returned to the topic. According to him, the arrival of this biometric unlocking system taking into account the fingerprints placed under the screen should still take several years.

In his publication, the analyst explains as follows:

I previously predicted that iPhones would support under-display fingerprint/Touch ID detection in 2023 at the earliest. But the latest survey indicates that the new iPhones of 2023 and 2024 may not adopt Touch ID under the screen. Face ID with a mask on the iPhone is already a great biometric solution.

With this statement, the analyst contradicts himself, since he predicted last September that this arrival could take place in September on the occasion of the release of the iPhone 15. For the time being, Ming-Chi Kuo does not provides no further explanation of this reversal.

Our colleagues fromappleinsider come up with an entirely credible hypothesis. This delay could be due to problems encountered by Apple and its competitors in the supply chain where certain parts are now missing.
