The North American firm has just revealed to us the 2022 Jeep Wrangler. The off-road update comes with subtle news under the skin, but important changes to its mechanical offering. Starting next year, only the plug-in hybrid version, better known as 4xe. In fact, orders are already open in Italy, Spain, Belgium and Serbia.

Strict European emissions regulations have wiped out the rest of the Wrangler greedy engines. Stellantis needs to lower the average emissions of its range. Additionally, Jeep wants EVs to account for 70% of its global sales by 2025. Jeep, too withdraws the two-door Wrangler from the European range.

For the 2022 model year, the Wrangler gets more safety technology, additional paint options, a Mopar Sunrider Flip Top roof, and a Gorilla Glass windshield. The latter is optional for the Sahara trim and standard on the Rubicon. Part of the Jeep Performance Parts catalog, it is up to three times more resistant to chips, cracks and fractures.

The 2022 Wrangler is available with a softtop or a three-piece hardtop (in black or body color). If we opt for the rigid roof, we can choose the new Sunrider Flip Top, which adds a soft part over the first row of seats. Regarding the new colors we have the Tuscadero, Gobi, Silver Zynith Metallic Clear Coat and High Velocity Metallic Clear Coat.

The Wrangler 4xe’s plug-in hybrid powertrain is capable of achieving, in all-electric mode, 40 km autonomy in complete silence and without generating emissions. It provides a unique experience on and off the asphalt through the combination of two electric motors, a 2.0-liter gasoline engine and a high-voltage battery pack.

Altogether, the system yields a power of 375 hp (280 kW) and a pair of 637 Nm. The advanced powertrain is paired with a robust 8-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission. Your 400-volt lithium-ion battery pack, 17 kWh and 96 cells uses a chemical mixture of nickel, manganese, cobalt (NMC) and graphite.
