The Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS It is the new top of the range of the 718 family. It is a sports car designed according to Porsche, to enjoy at the wheel and that impresses with the lightness of its construction and yes, we are talking about 500 hp (368 kW) coming from a high-revving central engine and a curb weight of 1,415 kilograms.
In the circuit of Nürburgring Nordschleife it has surpassed its brother the 718 Cayman GT4 in more than 23 seconds. The naturally aspirated boxer engine, which comes from the one used in the 911 GT3 and in the racing version 911 GT3 Cup goes up to 9,000 revolutions and, compared to that of the 718 Cayman GT4, offers an extra 80 hp (59 kW) power, which places the car’s power / weight ratio at 2.83 kg / hp.
The maximum torque has increased from 430 to 450 Nm. Among the striking features of the new top model in the 718 range are the air intakes located behind the driver and passenger windows, where the 718 Cayman normally has small side windows.
According to the brand itself, those new intakes improve intake airflow while creating an intoxicating sound for the occupants. The typical air intakes in front of the rear wheels have been preserved and are used for engine cooling.
The new 718 GT4 RS is available exclusively with the Porsche Dual Clutch Transmission (PDK).
The paddles allow the driver to keep their hands on the wheel, even when manually shifting gears. The low gear ratios of the PDK transmission favor an incredible acceleration of 0 to 100 km / h in just 3.4 seconds (GT4 with PDK: 3.9 seconds) and achieves a top speed of 315 km / h (GT4 with PDK: 302 km / h), which is reached with seventh gear engaged.
Weight reduction is achieved thanks to the use of carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) on components such as the hood and front wings. Lightweight mats also save weight, as does the reduction in the amount of insulating material. The rear window is made of lightweight glass, as are the door panels, which also have fabric handles to open and storage nets, thus eliminating any superfluous gram.
The new fixed rear spoiler, with gooseneck arms and aluminum mounts, is another distinctive element of the exterior design.
The modifications to the chassis stand out thanks to the specific shock absorbers, stabilizer bars and springs.
The optional pack Weissach takes the dynamic design of the GT4 RS even further. The front hood for the luggage compartment, the air intakes, the air filter box cover, the exterior mirror upper housings and the rear spoiler have a carbon finish. The titanium tailpipes offer a similar look to the Porsche 935. The rear mounted roll cage is also made of titanium. The upper section of the dashboard is upholstered in Race-Tex material and a large Porsche logo is integrated into the rear window.
With the Weissach pack, 20-inch forged magnesium wheels can be ordered at an additional cost instead of forged aluminum. Thanks to these improvements, Jörg Bergmeister, covered the 20,832 kilometer Green Hell track in 7:09,300 minutes.
In the shorter version of this track, 20.6 km long and which serves as a reference to compare the time with the 718 Cayman GT4, the new GT4 RS rolled in 7: 04.511 minutes, which represents a reduction of 23.6 seconds. compared to the other model.
Although the model celebrates its world premiere at the Los Angeles Auto Show We already know the final price in Spain, which by the way is 163,182 euros. Deliveries will begin in December.
