production would have been stopped for several days

A few days before Christmas when Apple products should still be numerous under the tree, the Cupertino company is experiencing difficulties with its supply chain according to a report from the Japanese newspaper Nikkei Asia.

Production has even been interrupted for several days in the Chinese factories of the Apple brand which assemble the iPhone 13, iPhone SE and iPad. Quoted by our colleagues, a supply chain manager specifies:

Due to the limited number of components and chips, it made no sense to work overtime on holidays and give frontline workers extra pay. This has never happened before. In the past, the Chinese Golden Week was always the most eventful time, when all assemblers prepared for production.

The shortage of microchips is being felt

Another problem encountered by the suppliers of Apple: the energy restrictions decided in the Middle Empire which disrupt the plans. The consequences are quite alarming and according to Nikkei Asia the production of the range of iPhone 13 was 20% lower than expected by the company, and even this Apple brand has prioritized the manufacture of the latter. Likewise, the production volume of iPads fell by 50%, while that of older generations of iPhones fell by 25%.

As a reminder, the shortage of electronic chips is already causing serious problems for Apple. According to an article by Bloomberg last October, the tech giant could reduce iPhone 13 production by 10 million units by the end of the year. The American media explained that the company was suffering from a smaller delivery of components from Broadcom and Texas Instruments.

We will still have to arm ourselves with patience before the situation improves, and even if opinions differ, many specialists in the matter expect the shortage to continue throughout 2022.
