Samsung will hide behind 80 million iPhone 14s

iPhone 14 Pro Max concept

According ETNews (Korea IT News), SamsungDisplay was chosen once again by Apple to design the screens of its mobiles. Eighty million units would thus be in the boxes, but this figure will not represent the total of smartphones sold. Indeed, according to other sources BOE Electronics and LG Display are also at the helm but for different orders.

Samsung, for its part, would have been assigned to each model : iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max on the one hand, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max on the other. The latter two will be entitled to different treatment because their panel will probably offer an adaptive refresh rate, capable of reaching one hundred and twenty frames per second.

Partners of choice

The subcontractor would be assisted in this task by other companies. According to the Korean media, it is Duksan Neolux, Solus Advanced Materials and Samsung SDI. Their know-how seems to be required to launch large-scale production, the last step before delivery of packages to the Apple Store and to third-party retailers such as iConcept, Darty or Boulanger.

The first packages should arrive as early as third quarter 2022. On the box side, it will be without plastic film and with a cardboard tab that customers will be able to access their iPhone. Other even more eco-friendly packaging debuted last week, but these are only for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini for now.

What’s new for these screens?

Technology LTPO that Samsung will provide will be similar to that found on the side of the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max offered for sale in the Apple Store today. It therefore allows better comfort, especially for gaming, where players benefit from a high frequency. Energy consumption is also improved during much less greedy tasks such as reading an article or displaying a static image.

Four models iPhone 14 models are rumored to be on the way: the 6.1-inch “classic” iPhone 14, a 6.7-inch “Max” version and a Pro version for each of these models. The iPhone 14 Pro will be the most expensive, with a triple photo sensor on the back in addition to LiDAR for augmented reality.
