Some media expected Apple to launch a new Mac mini during its March 8 event. But instead, the Cupertino company presented a whole new category: the Mac Studio. This product is positioned between the Mac mini and the Mac Pro. Indeed, it has a design clearly inspired by that of the Mac mini, while offering high performance thanks to the M1 Max and M1 Ultra chips.
In any case, the rumors therefore continue to circulate about the next Mac mini. Previously, sources had suggested that in 2022 Apple might finally update the design of this class of Mac. Some evoke for example a band on the sides, as well as the use of a new material for the case.
Mac mini: always the same design
However, in an article published recently our colleagues from Apple Insider relay a publication which would have been made by the analyst Ming Chi Kuo and which would suggest that for the moment, Apple would have no intention of changing the design of the Mac mini. This indicates that the Mac mini of 2022 and those of 2023 will have the same form factor.
While Apple is making big changes for Macs, why does the company want to keep the same design for the Mac mini? According to Apple Insider, Apple may want the Mac mini to keep the same design which is quite similar to the Mac Studio.
As a reminder, Apple has already launched a Mac mini using an Apple Silicon chip: the M1. And according to Mark Gurman, journalist at Bloomberg, the Cupertino company would prepare a new Mac mini with two versions: one using the M2 chip and the other using the M2 Pro chip.
In any case, for the other categories of Mac, important changes are planned. While Apple has already launched iMacs and MacBook Pros with new designs in 2021, the company is expected to launch a MacBook Air with a new look this year.
