Study reveals that more than half of video game developers are already exploring possible uses for Blockchain - DiarioBitcoin By Angel Di Matteo @shadowargel

The study shows that video game developers in the United States and the United Kingdom maintain that Blockchain and the NFT they could well become part of the standard within the industry.

A study recently carried out by the British agency Opinion revealed that around 58% of the video game development companies consulted have already begun to explore possible uses of Blockchain within their next titles.

Game developers explore uses of Blockchain

According to data released by the agency, of the 197 US and UK-based developers consulted, 58% were already using the underlying technology of digital currencies to some extent, while 47% started using non-fungible tokens (NFT).

Going deeper into the figures, at least 65% of the companies consulted perceive Blockchain as a constant within the ecosystem for the next two years, so at least 56% of developers consider this technology to be present in any of their titles in the next 12 months.

The results of the investigation come at a time when several reputable companies have already expressed an interest in implementing Blockchain in his next titles. Such is the case of Ubisoft who have been exploring such technology for some time, while Electronic Arts (EA) It plans to get even more involved with the sector, although the latter does not have any concrete plan to carry this out for now.

The rise of Play-to-win

Even though the idea of Blockchain and games is something that has been on the table for some time, between 2020 and 2021 games based on this type of technology became very popular Play-to-Win, in which players could derive rewards in the form of tokens or collectibles, which could later be traded on specialized platforms and exchanged for other cryptocurrencies or fiat money.

Perhaps the greatest exponent of this market today is gaming Axie Infinity, which has a base of more than two million players, being the title with the highest number of downloads and active users today. Here players must manage a team of three axies (either by buying them or through a scholarship), with which they can play in an adventure mode or in a combat arena against other participants, and thus derive rewards in tokens Smooth Love Potion (SLP), which are priced at about USD $ 0.07 per unit at the time of publication.

After the success of Axie Infinity, Many other games have come out that have tried to copy and innovate the formula to attract a large user base, thus popularizing the dynamics of games based on the use of NFT.

But while a good part of the developers see a future in the sector of NFT and Blockchain, there are also those who do not want to have anything to do with these technologies. An example of this is the service for the sale and distribution of PC games, Steam, whose directors warned developers that it was strictly forbidden to advertise games that involve the use of the aforementioned elements.
