Many of us remember the colorful arrival of the iMac as the Apple Silicon Generation device last year. During this presentation, many people were disappointed not to see an iMac Pro on the horizon. The more powerful device of the two would logically also have had the right to the M1 chip and even a derivative of the latter, with why not the M1 Pro chip or even the M1 Max processor, presented on the MacBook Pros of 14 and 16 inches.
If this idea can reason very logically in some minds, it was the same for Apple which would have even produced prototypes of these iMacs with M1 Max chips. According to Amethyst, a recent Apple analyst who distinguished himself by revealing the name of the Mac Studio first, Apple would have been working on a more powerful iMac than the one we know.
Not one, not two, but three prototypes
According to his information, Amethyst even assures that the apple brand has not thought of one or two devices, but of three different variants for the iMac in 2021. He explains that these three projects arrived on different dates. for Apple. The first that would have seen the light of day would thus be the 27-inch iMac with an Apple processor.
In August 2021, Apple would have decided to work on another prototype, when the iMac had just been released (May 21). This time around, the design would have been closer to the 24-inch iMac, but Apple would have kept a 27-inch screen and an M1 chip.
Finally, the latest unexpected, Apple would have thought last November to produce an iMac with the same design as the 24-inch version, but all equipped with a 27-inch XDR screen. This product, which may never see the light of day, would thus have had the right to an M1 Max chip, which was going to be released in the following weeks on the 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pro.
An iMac Pro with an Apple Silicon chip?
Obviously this latest prototype is the most interesting of the three, which notably offers an M1 Max chip that we have so far only seen in a MacBook Pro. With an iMac and its superb screen, the chip would have been of great use to many professionals.
But far from forgetting them, Apple has found another, more expensive solution for them, the Mac Studio, released at the beginning of 2022. This beast of competition is Apple’s most powerful machine, which is entitled to a M1 ultra chip. With its screen, the Studio Display, the computer is the perfect combo. It is even too powerful to be able to be installed under all desks.
