Will Smith was applauded as well as criticized at the long-awaited 2022 Oscars Awards gala at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, as he starred in one of the best moments when he received the award for “Best Actor”; but he also became the center of controversy by publicly hitting comedian Chris Rock.
After what happened, there would be a possibility that the actor loses his statuette for his bad behavior. A source revealed to the New York Post that there is a code of conduct maintained by the Academy and that Smith would have violated with his attitude.
Will Smith may be asked to return his Best Actor award following his live onstage assault on Chris Rock. “It’s basically an assault. Everyone was so shocked in the room, it was so awkward. I think Will wouldn’t want to give the Oscar back to him, but who knows what will happen next,” a source told the outlet.
According to a report by Variety, in 2017 the director of the Hollywood Academy, Dawn Hudson, established that “in addition to achieving excellence in the field of cinematographic arts and sciences, members must also behave ethically when defending the values of the Academy of respect for human dignity, inclusion and a supportive environment that fosters creativity.”
It is worth mentioning that Chris Rock has refused to file a police report with charges against the actor, for the time being.
