Nestlé’s first product was made for children who could not be breastfed

We are so used to the Nestlé logo for a long time that we have probably not bothered to wonder its origin. We obviously know that it is a nest that some associate with the family bond when they see a bird feeding some chicks. But how did it come about? Was it like this from the beginning? What does it mean?
He founder of the Nestlé company is the German pharmacist Henri Nestlé, who in 1867 launches its first product in Vevey, Switzerland: ‘farine lactée’ (flour with milk). The infant food was made of cow’s milk, wheat flour and sugar. Nestlé developed it for babies who could not be breastfed and cope with high mortality rates. His invention was revolutionary at that time.
The original brand of the Nestlé company is based on your family coat of arms and it showed a single bird perched on a nest.
Henri Nestlé adapted the coat of arms by adding three chicks fed by a mother nest in an oak branch to create a visual link between your name and children’s cereal products of your company. What turned out to be a good successful marketing idea to this day.
Henri was one of the first Swiss manufacturers to create a brand with the help of a logo that is a reference to the surname Nestlé which means “nest” in German. He began using the image as a trademark in 1868.
In 1875 Henri Nestlé sold his company and factory in Vevey to three local entrepreneurs. Then in 1905 the company he founded merged with Anglo-Swiss, to form what is now known as the Nestlé Group. However, the logo remained, it has evolved over time but without ceasing to be the bird’s nest with which Nestlé is recognized throughout the world.
