Benefits of consuming fish

According to an article in the 20minutos portal, a study carried out by the Barcelona Institute of Global Health, the consumption of white and blue fish during the first 3 months of pregnancy will help improve the attention span of the little ones.

This study was carried out in a group of 1,641 couples that are part of a project that is in charge of studying the role of pollutants during pregnancy and what effects they produce in childhood.

The results showed that pregnant women who consumed blue or white fish during the initial months of pregnancy had children with better attention span than those children whose mothers consumed fish later in the pregnancy.

Other acids are docosahexaenoic and eicosapantaenoic, which actively participate in neuronal development. However, the main source of these acids is fish, says Jordi Júlvez, a researcher at the Barcelona Institute for Global Health.

So, these nutrients play an important role in the formation of the structure and function of the brain in the fetus, positively affecting neuropsychological development during childhood.

These nutrients are essential to avoid attention deficit and hyperactivity disorders, which are very common in children.

On the other hand, canned tuna and shellfish are best avoided. The important thing is to have an appropriate diet during pregnancy, and for this, consultation with the specialist is essential to determine the appropriate diet that includes seafood that allows a healthy growth of the baby.
