Will Apple introduce realityOS?

Apple WWDC 21

In a few days, Apple will launch its WWDC conference. During this event, the firm will lift the veil on the new versions of its operating systems. Of course, the star of the opening keynote will be iOS 16.

But for a while now, rumors have suggested that the Cupertino company could also take advantage of this event to finally publicly discuss its AR/VR projects. And recently, a new leak tends to corroborate this theory.

Coincidence or not?

In a tweet, Parker Ortolani, of The Verge, said he had discovered documents indicating that the “realityOS” trademark (this would be the name of Apple’s operating system for its AR / VR headset) will be registered on June 8.

“It can’t be a coincidence that the trademark ‘realityOS’ is owned by a company that apparently doesn’t exist and is specifically for ‘wearable computing hardware’, is registered worldwide on June 8, 2022”, we read in his tweet. Indeed, Apple’s WWDC 2022 conference will begin on June 6 and end on June 10.

So, will Apple present realityOS during the WWDC conference? For Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, that’s unlikely.

Commenting on Ortolani’s discovery, Gurman explains that it is probably a coincidence. “I think June 8 is probably a coincidence, but we’re getting closer, especially given the recent board demo”he said.

“The overseas filing deadline of June 8 is exactly 6 months from the original filing date – likely related to legal proceedings and a coincidence rather than related to the WWDC keynote two days later early “he adds in another tweet.

Previously, Gurman had explained that Apple’s AR/VR headset is not ready for a presentation at the WWDC 2022 conference. Nevertheless, the project is progressing and recently, for the first time, the firm has presented a prototype of its future headphone on the board.

Many sources also agree that Apple should rather unveil its first AR / VR headset (and realityOS with it) either at the end of 2022 or at the beginning of 2023.

In any case, these headphones would be released well before the release of iOS 17 in the second half of 2023, since the code for iOS 16 would already include references to the future product.

Normally, Apple’s headset should be a high-end product that will mix augmented reality and virtual reality, thanks to external cameras and high definition screens. On the other hand, this headset would have a processor equivalent to those we have on Macs, which means that it should work independently (without requiring another device).
